Many times, investment projections estimated at the start of the financial year are higher and do not tally with the actual investments made. In such cases, TDS refund occurs. If you have filed for TDS refund, you can check the status of reimbursement after 10 days from the date of filing. TDS refund status is made by income tax within duration of few months. Thus, tax deducted at source is tax deducted from salaries and paid to the income tax department on behalf of the employees. We can say that it is the tax filing season and most people are dealing with a concept known as TDS or Tax Deducted at Source.
TDS Interest Rate on TDS Return
If the payable TDS refund is more than 10% of the total tax payable for that year, the TDS refund is paid to the taxpayer with the interest rate of 6% per annum. Before issuance of the refund, an intimation is sent to the taxpayer for calculation of the interest. If the tax payer is not satisfied with a computation of interest, he can contact his income tax office.
The interest earned on TDS refund is also taxable.
How to Track TDS Refund Status
Check TDS return status at the following page of NSDL portal. Make sure that you start checking it after ten days of e-filing. The TDS refund status will show you whether your TDS refund is sanctioned or no.
Enter your TAN number and provide the provisional receipt number. Hit the submit button to view TDS status.

Procedure for e-TDS/TCS Return | TDS Return Filing
e-TDS/TCS return should be prepared in a data format as prescribed by the e-filing administrator. Use the below links to download the software. You will also find it on the income tax department website. The File Validation Utility software is available with a data structure.
- File Validation Utility (FVU)
Use the RPU generated e-TDS/TCS return file and ensure the format accuracy of the file. This utility software is available to download for free at the NSDL portal. If the e-TDS/TCS return has any errors, you should correct them in the same excel utility file. After correction pass the corrected e-TDS return through the FVU. Keep on repeating the process until an error free return is generated by the software.

It is necessary to about the forms before you file and track your TDS refund status. A separate Form no. 27A is to be filed for every e-TDS/TCS return. It is to be filed in paper form by deductors with quarterly statements. It contains the total income tax deducted at source and the total amount paid.
